About the conference

The first UK Passivhaus Conference was held in Islington, London, October 2010 and also contained a Passivhaus products exhibition and an afternoon of site visits to a mix of three completed and in-progress passivhaus projects. The organisation of this conference was led by Alexis Rowell of Cutting the Carbon, with a steering group of architects and partner organisations. Visit Cutting the Carbon for information about the conference.
The first UK Passivhaus Student Conference was held at the University of East London in October 2010. This was organised by Sofie Pelsmakers, Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader MA Architecture: Sustainability and Design.
Following these events, it was agreed that the main conference and the research conference should join together as a two day event bringing together professional presentations of passivhaus building projects with academic and practical research work. This led to the development of the programme of the UK Passivhaus Conference 2011, which was organised by BRE and the Passivhaus Trust and held at the Barbican Centre in London on 24th and 25th October 2011 and which included two full days of presentations and site visits, with over 250 people attending and more than 20 Passivhaus exhibition stands.
Following the successful UK Passivhaus Conference 2011, BRE and Passivhaus Trust are now launching the 2012 UK Passivhaus Conference in EMCC, The University of Nottingham. This will again include two full days of presentations, debates and workshops but will this year be followed by a separate third day of site visits to nearby Passivhaus projects. Day 1 will focus on national and international speakers and case studies of leading-edge projects, including learning journeys from the first clients and project teams who are now on to their second and third Passivhaus projects in the UK. Day 2 will focus on detailed examination of specific aspects of Passivhaus projects and will include evidence and feedback from Passivhaus projects during occupation.
